Independence Day Paragraph
26th March, our Independence Day, is the biggest national festival. Every year the day is celebrated with great enthusiasm in the country. It is a national holiday. All offices, educational institutions, shops and factories are closed on this day. Earlier in the morning, the President and the Prime Minister laid wreaths on behalf of the nation at the Savar National Museum.
After that, diplomats, political parties, social and cultural organizations as well as freedom fighters – gathered to pay tribute and remember those who lost their lives. People from all walks of life also come there with processions. Various cultural programs are held throughout the day highlighting the heroic struggle and sacrifice of 1971.
The country also witnessed a smartly dressed parade of defense forces, border guards, police, Ansar and VDP (Village Defense Party) at the National Parade Ground near the National Parliament. At the Bangabandhu Stadium, school children, scouts and girl guides took part in various shows to entertain thousands of spectators. Educational institutions also organize their own programs. Sports and tournaments are also organized on the Buriganga river, including exciting boat races.
In the evening all major government buildings are illuminated with colorful lights. Bangla Academy, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and other socio-cultural organizations organize cultural events. Similar events are organized in other parts of the country.
