Those who fought bravely for the country in the liberation war of 1971 are called freedom fighters. Before independence we as a nation were under West Pakistan for almost two years. The freedom-loving people of this country took up arms in protest against the torture and persecution of the West Pakistani ruling group.
Which later turned into a bloody war. Farmers, workers, students, teachers, artists, writers and youth spontaneously participated in this war. Not only that, those who could not directly participate in the liberation war, also came forward to help the freedom fighters in various ways.
The freedom fighters continued to defeat the Pakistani forces in guerilla and frontal warfare. In the first week of December, the Pakistani forces were defeated and fled in the face of heavy attack by the joint forces. Finally on 16 December 93 thousand Pakistani troops were defeated and surrendered.
Independent sovereign Bangladesh was born in the heart of the world through the victory in the war of liberation. Thousands of brave soldiers sacrificed their lives to make Bangladesh independent. Bangladesh government has taken various initiatives to honor these brave freedom fighters. We should remember these brave sons of the nation with respect and work for the country.

১৯৭১ সালের মুক্তিযুদ্ধে যারা দেশের জন্য বীরত্বের সাথে যুদ্ধ করেছেন তাদের বলা হয় মুক্তিযোদ্ধা। স্বাধীনতার আগে জাতি হিসেবে আমরা প্রায় দুই বছর পশ্চিম পাকিস্তানের অধীনে ছিলাম। পশ্চিম পাকিস্তানি শাসকগোষ্ঠীর অত্যাচার-নির্যাতনের প্রতিবাদে এদেশের স্বাধীনতাকামী মানুষ অস্ত্র হাতে তুলে নেয়।
যা পরবর্তীতে রক্তক্ষয়ী যুদ্ধে রূপ নেয়। এই যুদ্ধে কৃষক, শ্রমিক, ছাত্র, শিক্ষক, শিল্পী, লেখক ও তরুণরা স্বতঃস্ফূর্তভাবে অংশগ্রহণ করে। শুধু তাই নয়, যারা সরাসরি মুক্তিযুদ্ধে অংশগ্রহণ করতে পারেননি, তারাও মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের নানাভাবে সাহায্য করতে এগিয়ে আসেন।
মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা গেরিলা ও সম্মুখ যুদ্ধে পাকিস্তানি বাহিনীকে পরাজিত করতে থাকে। ডিসেম্বরের প্রথম সপ্তাহে যৌথ বাহিনীর প্রবল আক্রমণের মুখে পাকিস্তানি বাহিনী পরাজিত হয়ে পালিয়ে যায়। অবশেষে ১৬ ডিসেম্বর ৯৩ হাজার পাকিস্তানি সেনা পরাজিত হয় এবং আত্মসমর্পণ করে।
মুক্তিযুদ্ধে বিজয়ের মধ্য দিয়ে বিশ্বের বুকে জন্ম নেয় স্বাধীন সার্বভৌম বাংলাদেশের। বাংলাদেশ স্বাধীন করতে হাজার হাজার বীর সৈনিক জীবন উৎসর্গ করে। বাংলাদেশ সরকার এই বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের সম্মান জানাতে নানা উদ্যোগ নিয়েছে। আমাদের উচিত জাতির এই বীর সন্তানদের শ্রদ্ধার সাথে স্মরণ করে দেশের জন্য কাজ করা।
