As a quality controller for manufacturing quality control in a factory, you must know what QCs do in other companies. The responsibilities of QC personnel may vary from organization to organization but the core job responsibilities remain the same. Job responsibilities of quality control team in apparel manufacturing are listed in this article.

Job Responsibilities of Quality Controller

  • Setting quality standards for the factory following customer requirements and guidelines for each department and process.
  • Establish SOPs for manufacturing and preparation processes to get first-time quality from every process. Develop MIS for quality measurement and recording quality.
  • When a company establishes quality standards they must follow and control factory quality standards.
  • Monitor product quality at various stages of production.
  • Train newly hired quality personnel on company quality policies and how to use quality tools.

Work responsibilities in pre-production area

  • Inspecting interior fabric and trims and ensuring only quality products are available.
  • Involved in product development and sampling stage and take care of sample quality aspects.
  • Ensure that no defective fabric is sent for cutting. If there are minor defects in the cloth, the defects should be marked on the cloth and reported to the cutting department.
  • Preparation of fabric and trims quality audit reports.
  • Conducting pre-production meetings before the start of production.

Role of work in production

  • Perform in-line inspection of sewing floor and end-of-line inspection.
  • Perform inline inspection, pre-final audit and final inspection in the finishing department.
  • Inspection of packed goods before offering shipment to buyer QA.
  • Responsible for analyzing quality reports and preparing improvement plans.
  • Ensuring proper quality of outerwear by conducting quality audits in the production process.

Job Description of Quality Assurance Supervisor [Garment]

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring timely and effective implementation of all company policies, procedures and operations involved in ensuring the quality of manufactured products.
  • Ensuring proper quality of outerwear by conducting quality audits in the manufacturing process.
  • Assist in the investigation and correction of quality-related issues (including customer complaints) in collaboration with other departments.
  • Monitor product quality at various stages of production.
  • Develop proactive recommendations and proposals/current solutions for manufacturing to improve quality and work efficiency.
  • Review production batch records and other production-related documents to verify compliance and record keeping for all mandatory manufacturing processes, quality checks, testing, sampling and sanitation activities.
  • Monitor quality control of raw materials, packaging materials, labels and finished products to ensure compliance with established specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee in-process production by confirming required specifications, conducting visual and measurement checks, and communicating necessary adjustments to Production Supervisor.
  • Perform inline inspection, pre-final audit and final inspection in the finishing department.
  • Setting quality standards for the factory by following the requirements and guidelines for each department and process.
  • Ensure good quality assurance performance through mentoring, training, setting expectations, accountability and evaluation.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Textile/Garment Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in apparel industry quality assurance.
  • Should have experience in preparing Standardized Policy (SOP) related to QA and QC of Garments, monitoring and controlling QA and QC.
  • Strong communication and social skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Organization skills and prioritization, and attention to detail.
  • Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.
  • Understanding of production methods and procedures
