Major, Minor, and Critical Defects in Garments Industry

Types of Garments Defects

There are three types of defects, these are 1. Critical defect 2. Major defect 3. Minor Defect.

Critical Defect

A serious error or Critical defects is an unacceptable error that poses a risk to the safety and health of the customer and is considered a breach of the Code of Conduct. A critical defect is a defect that, if found during inspection, will cause the inspection to fail.

Examples of critical defects: sharp metal on clothing, product buttons undone, product containing anything that is harmful to the user.

Major Defect

A major defect is an important defect which affects the beauty, quality of the product and which makes the customer lose interest in purchasing the product. This error results in customer dissatisfaction. Each major defect is counted as one point during the inspection.

Example of Major defect: Skip stitch, broken stitch, Open seam, Sewing open, off shade.

Minor Defect

A minor defect is a slight deviation from the prescribed standard or quality standard which may adversely affect the quality and beauty of the product and may result in reduced sales. This may cause the customer to return the product or lose interest. Each minor defect during inspection is counted as one point less.
